Hi folks,

Well, it turns out that i don't have even one rifle or shotgun for that matter in my safe anymore. I ended up selling them all once i got my restricted for a bunch of pistols. Now i realise that it is quite stupid not to have a rifle. All my rifled in the past have been milsurp. They are affordable, reliable, and function as personal protection and great for hunting. Now here is where i need some advice.

I like semi auto's. But I am not adverse to having a great bolt action either. Now i was looking at the Russian SVT-40 semi in 7x54r. I owned a Mosin Nagant m44 so i know the cartridge. Im wondering how reliable and accurate she is. Also, the fact that the ammo is corrosive, how hard is it to properly maintain this rifle. If you were in my position, is there another rifle that i should be looking at instead? I also owned an SKS before, the cartridge isnt that great for hunting and it's not a superbly accurate rifle either. So apart from the SKS. What rifle should i get for best all around service and would the SVT-40 be that rifle?

Thanks in advance for your help. Much appreciated :)

The SVT-40 (don't forget the T ;)) is pretty easy to strip down. I haven't shot mine yet but so far I like it. Looks cooler than an SKS too ;)

P&S has quite a few of them for sale. Until I take mine out to shoot I can't be of much more help though :(

took mine out today, she's pretty beat up and the bnore is black, but shot decent at short ranges, have to unstick the gas system, it was acting as a straight pull with 174 hungarian ball at it's current setting.
