Need some advise for rem700. Im juste starting long range

I've got the same rifle and I like it. Shoots well, no problems so far. With the 26" barrel and aluminum bedding, it is front-heavy though... 11.4 pounds total with the bipod, steel rail and scope, unloaded. I don't reload, so I shoot factory ammo, seems to like 165gr Hornaday.

Hey Mystic,

I am interested in your comments on the 783. It looks like it is better than the 700 in some respects. Rather than having the action wide open it is much more similar to the higher end stuff.

Is the foot print the same as a 700? It looks pretty darn close.

The downside of the 783 is no heavy barrel option but I would guess you could probably build one for $1,500...

Could someone explain to me how much of trouble it is to put a good heavy barrel on the 783 if none are available so far? And would the action fit the aftermarket chassis as I would be interested in a more tactical and customizable design?

I wouldn't overthink things right now.....you've made a good choice of rifle.
There will be a never ending difference in opinions here, so start there and try out as much stuff as you can and see what you like and dislike.
It's unlikely this will be your last rifle purchase!

Installing a new barrel will be the same cost as any other shouldered headspace build. there are no prefits at this time.

I believe MDT is making chassis and can supply both items if interested.
