I just did some trading and have a DPMS LR-308 (AR-10) on it's way to me as soon as the transfer is complete.
I am trying to decide what to do for glass on it. I currently have a Sightron 6-24x50 on my Savage model 10 308 with 20 inch heavy barrel which I could use or I have a Trijicon 5-20x50 on my 223 bolt action which I could use or I have an $800 store credit at P&D in Edmonton and could throw in an extra couple hundred dollars if needed to buy something new.
Since the rifle has a 24 inch barrel and obviously is only going to be used at the range I'm thinking something for longer distance precision shooting would be best. I'm leaning towards taking the Sightron off the Savage and buying something new for it but can't decide since the last time I took it out was to play at 1100yds and the higher magnification and clear glass was definitely nice to have that day but the rifle is typically my hunting rifle.
Anyone with AR-10 experience want to chime in, is the 6-24 too much for a 308 AR? Until the club gets around to extending the range like they said they will be doing I am limited to 300 yard shots for now. Maybe I should buy another Trijicon 5-20? I really like that scope. It's not as nice as the Nightforce NXS that's on my 338 Lapua but it's definitely a great scope for around $1000. If only Trijicon made an accupoint in a 4-16 or 3.5-15 range.
Thanks in advance for any help.
