Need some gunsmithing help

Very heavily copper fouled bore, possibly. Raising pressures even with ordinary ammo
due to increased resistance. I would do a serious copper removal on that barrel
make sure it is clean, then try it again. Dave.

This and also take the bolt apart, clean and inspect the firing pin, extrator and ejector. Then retest it and if it blows the primers on the first couple of round stop shooting it before you pit the bolt head so bad that it needs to be replaced. If you still have problems with it then take it to a competent gun smith to have it checked out or call Savage and see what they say about it.

I'd say he's pretty lucky. I've never had it happen with factory ammo, but if/when I ever have a difficult extraction/blown primer/even gasses escaping I'd be stopping immediately and figuring out what was up. I think you've got some pretty solid advice from C-FBMI up there, and from other folks. It doesn't seem like headspace, it seems like overpressure. If this is a new gun (with only 3 boxes through it) get it back to savage and let them deal with it. Factory rounds generally aren't loaded to the point that they create excess pressure. There is something wrong with the gun. Either the barrel has an obstruction, or somehow the chamber does. Either that or he's BSing you and he's running some real hot handloads....
