Ok i have this smith model 20 its been rebarreled so it now restricted. I been doing some reseach and they are made on the N frame but id like to know if any of them were ever made on a K frame as the one i have looks to be K frame. It fits nice into a K frame holster even when i put it beside my L frame it looks smaller

Hi the S&W Model 20 is an N frame gun should have a shrould around the exjecter rod period it is in no way a k frame gun. Its a heavy duty version .38 special which is built on a .357 Magnum n frame . Does it have a Prefix letter S in front of the serial # as for K frames then the Model 15, 14, 10 are .38 specials too that dont have the shrould around the ejecter rod but the answer is no they never made a Model 20 on a k frame if this helps..

the new barrel that was put on has no shrould around the ejecter the barrel that was installed looks like one from a model 10. It has the Prefix letter S in front of the serial # which is on the grip but there is no way its a N frame if i put it beside my S&W 625 it looks so small

Maybe its a pre model 10 transitional model from 1945-1948 these were Postwar M&P .38 Specials they too had the S prefix in front off the serial # the only way to know for sure if the serial number range from S811300-S999999 it would have 6 digit serial numbers And yes this would be a K frame gun as these never had a shrould around the ejecter rod if this helps let me know these were also all .38 Specials some were in .32 S&W long but not many were made..

Sounds like you have a .38 M&P Post war Transitional Model . These have the long trow hammer action which is a prewar type action on the right side of the frame you should have the single line address Made in U.S.A. not the 4 line they came in around mid 1948 therebouts..
