hey all!

bought my first rifle...lil used Mossberg 151K semi-auto plinkster. I got it on Monday and finally was able to take it out today...only to find out it has some issues.

first one has been mostly corrected, but I'd like to know a bit more on how to clean the action of a semi-auto .22LR. what cleaning solutions etc would you use to remove the buildup of whatevers built up in there? we used some lil angled cleaning brushes and patches stuffed inside the chamber to scrub out a lot of the obvious fouling, but there's more in there to come out. what do I use to loosen/dissolve it or such?

second problem is worse. after we cleaned and oiled the action slide it would cycle fine, but something's wrong with the trigger assembly. after you fire, it doesn't return to it's start position, until you nudge it, upon which you usually can fire again. I've ordered the manual (well, a copy) for the Mossberg from a Mossberg enthusiast group down in the US ($5 shipped!) so soon I'll know how to disassemble, but if there is anything any of you can offer to help, I would greatly appreciate it!

I don't have that model, but I'm willing to bet that your cleaning methods knocked some crud into the trigger return spring, the disconnector or the sear. Pulling the trigger assembly out and hosing it down with some solvent should flush the crud/fouling out. Dry compressed air might work too. Good luck.

Hoppes or if you want it done fast... brake cleaner.

You didn't reassemble it correctly. Take it apart and try again

The little semi auto is fiarly simple to clean. After the metal is taken out of the stock. There is a sloped fitting at the rear of the action. This can be turned counter clockwise to remove it thus allowing the firing mechanism to exit thru the rear. the trigger problem is likely the build up of the crud and simple wear. I use WD40 to clean and spray the parts and then a good brush with a toothbrush to remove the caked on crud. Pull out the firing pin and extractors and clean the slots they fit in. The action is remarkably like the Cooey 64 action . Once clean, it operates great but slowly gets difficult when the dirt builds up from the burned powder. A copper or nylon brush for a 12 guage shotgun is great for cleaning the housing. Reassemble lightly oiled , and you should be shooting fine. Sometimes the mag hangs up the action also . Slight adjustments may be necessary.

I will mention that this was the stock condition of the rifle. being my first and with my noobishness, I never checked the action...just the bore, which was nice and clean as mentioned.

the casing ejected or unjammed were smeared a bit so we tried to clean some of the crud and fouling out. the trigger issue was there from the very beginning, so nothing I did caused that.

now I've got an idea of how to proceed. I just don't want to take something apart and then find myself not remembering how to put it back together.

and that diagram shows us what's inside 667, but not how to put it back together. thank you tho, it's something I can print off as reference. :) thank you too WT, now I have something to go on. :)

I suggest you take a series of pictures using a digital camera showing every step of the disassembly process. Of course this will not cover any little tricks that may or may not be needed for this particular model but having a record of each step taken should help.

kudos! thank you for that idea. :D

Mr. Friendly I have some carb cleaner from the old B2000 that should work wonders on the build up. I do ask do you just drop some in and let it work out then wipe it or do you disassemble the action? I also need to know on a .22 lever action.

As I'm the Mechanical one in the family I've taken the barrel off about 5 or 6 times since we discovered the trigger problem and each time it has locked in tight.

The best product I've ever used for baked-in carbon on rimfire semis is BreakFree CLP. Spray it in the action, and shoot it wet. The hard residue will soften and dissolve, and just wipe away.

i shot thousens of rounds thru my 151 when i was younger,
you should also get the gun digest book of rimfire rifles assemebly and disassembly, it has all you need. most gunstores have it or try chapters.

if you want to sell your 151 let me know :)
they are a fine rifle
