I am soon going to receive a S&W 745. I have tried to find some reviews and information on them but not coming up with much. I was hoping some of you Gun nutz own or have owned this model and could let me know your thoughts, opinions or maybe even a review on it :D
I was also curious what mags ( .45ACP ) would be compatible with it. As in if the model 645 mags or the model 4506 mags fit the 745. Im in need to buy some extra mags and have the opportunity but need to make sure the mags are compatible.

Basicly Im looking for peoples experiece with this model in terms of accuracy, reliability, quality etc.. If maybe there are parts that tend to wear out that I should be aware of and perhaps buy to have handy, that kinda thing.:)

Thanks in advance for any and all of your input. As always its greatly appreciated :)

I have had one for about 10 years now. I bought it from a retiring target shooter. I think I have about 6 mags with it. One hell of an accurate gun as it comes. I had one of the bullseye shooters at my club shoot it. At 20 yards (one handed standard bullseye stance) he put seven shots into on twoney size hole. One shot he pulled and it was beside the others.

The trigger pull is lighter than it feels. It breaks cleanly but it feels like I have to pull harder than the same weight on a 1911. The other problem I have with it is how it fits my hand. Really how it does not fit my hand. I prefer the feel of my Colt Gold Cup in my hand.

Mine is well made. I expect all other 745s would be the same.

Years ago I broke my right wrist and had to shoot with my left hand. Oddly there are some guns that I don't like the feel of them in my right hand but they are just fine in my left hand. My 745 and my Highpower are two of my guns that I like the feel of in my left hand.

My Colt 1911 is a little fussy when it comes to odd profile ammo. I bought a bunch of loaded ammo with what some call a button profile. Short with a odd front. The 745 eats it up where I can not get my 1911 to chamber it from the mag. I have never had any feed problems whit my 745. Your mileage may vary.

Do I shoot this gun well? No but I don't think I would ever sell mine. I actually have it registered as a Relic under the new system because I had it registered that way under the pre-C68 system.

It's basically a tuned up single action 645 built with IPSC in mind. 645 mags are interchangeable. There are 10 round aftermarket mags for them.
The have nice features, bushingless barrel lockup, ramped barrel, all steel costruction. I have a 645 and it is the most accurate autoloader I have ever fired.

Very accurate, especially with Jacketed ammo . My buddy's 745 would put 5 shots into a toony sized hole at 25 yards off the bench. But as Rudy says, it does not fit my hand well either and seems a little top or front heavy to me.
