I'm undertaking the restoration of a Cooey 840 and need some input regarding disassembly.

I need to remove the stock for refinishing and I'm wondering if pulling the two pins highlighted in the photo below is how to do it.

Do I just need to bang those out to separate the stock from the metal?

It's my first restoration attempt, so thanks in advance.

You remove them two pins and you'll invent sum cuss'in werds.
As mentioned above, remove the two butt pad screws and pad.
There will be an access hole bored between the two screw holes.
Take a look down there.
Sometimes a flat screw driver and other times a socket.
You will need an extension of some sort.
A bore light works great to have a look see down the hole.

Those 840 singles were very cheaply built. Amazing none blew up and such but they did fit the bill for many a young shooter including myself. They were light, recoiled hard and generally choked tighter than a bulls a$$ in fly season. Great choice for a newbie shooter...not!! As stated above, stock bolt accessible through rear butt plate when removed. Two pins on receiver are pushed in and appear to be slightly splined to keep the friction fit tight. Stocks were made of some cheaper wood...likely some type of soft maple. they were prone to cracking at the grip area. Good luck!
