I'm having some trouble with my NP22 and hoping someone here can help. I've got about 6500-7000 rounds through the gun and until recently, had no issues. Last week, I noticed my slide catch was engaging while I was firing, usually once or twice per mag. I'd thumb the release, continue to shoot and have to repeat before the mag was empty. When I got home and started to clean it, I noticed the take down lever seemed to have a lot less tension on it's rotation and can completely slide out to the left (i.e. there's nothing holding it in).

Following a good cleaning, I took the gun to the range on Sun and once again, the slide catch is engaging, only now more frequently. I've also noticed the take down lever is working it's way to the left while I'm firing. The gun is now in the locker and won't be back to the range until I get these issues sorted out.

Anyone have any advice? I'd prefer to tackle this myself, particularly for the learning opportunity but won't shy away from professional assistance, though I'm not sure who in the Halfiax area will work on a Norc. Thoughts? Thanks.

Check your frame rails, particulary the left side rail near the slide stop. Some of these pistols have cracked the rails in this area and this may cause the slide stop to engage. If it looks a bit silver in this area do not shoot the pistol anymore. I am assuming it does this with all your magazines?

Like DAR 701 suggest, inspect for crack - check the link under the barrel and make sure it is lubed.

If all is mechanically sound, then an early engaging of the slide stop may be caused by the mag. They might have spread at the front lip a bit allowing a bullet to hit the slide stop from inside the magazine well. The bullet is not released a the right time sometime it goes left (torque side) and engage the slide stop on its way to the chamber. The mag left lip must be parallele with the right side. Outside measurement should be .540 +- .005 on most mag.

You can also make a dimple with a drill on the slide stop were the plunger get in contact with it. This will make it harder to engage.

I agree with medic3. I was with him at the time. The spring in question operates the slide stop and is also integral with take-down lever. Most NP22's are actually shipped with a spare, as this is a known issue. I feel confident that you will find this spring broken.
