hi there,
i just bought myself a remington .22 win mag for coyotes.just wondering if anyone one here ever used one for coyotes and if so what would the best ammo be ? i just sighted it in yester day with federal 40 grain ammo.seems like a nice gun.

I use a .22 hornet for coyotes, and it is just about minimum in my experience. I have not used my .22 magnum RF on coyote, but have used it a lot for beavers, so I'm extrapolating. The Winchester hollowpoint jacketed 40 grain bullets hit the hardest of several brands and types I have tried. they fly out at 1900+ FPS, others are as slow as 1600. I would not use lighter bullets on coyote or beaver, not enough penetration. The Federal 50 gr. hollowpoint looks interesting. I would suggest you keep shots to well under 100 yards for best results.

I was going to use a .22mag myself on coyotes too, and on PEI it'd probably work out pretty good, but I'm going to go with .223
If only for the fact it's always good to have .223 around.
