Well I am late again and doing stuff at the last minute, so I ended with new bullets that were twice the price of my Hornady.

Nosler Partition for a 30-30 yeah apparently they exists :yingyang:

So it's a 170GR Round nose with a crimp grove
I checked Nosler website for load info but something is wrong

Seating Depth COL 2.550 for all load with 29gr of IMR 3031. I just can't reach the cannelure at that length. The grove must be at least .050 higher than a 2.550 COL bullet.

I need to zero 2 rifle and "develop" 2 loads with on 40 bullets. I was going to start with my good old 29gr of IMR 3031 at 2.550 but this bullet is screwing everything up.
I loaded 10 and went .020 deeper still look way too high to me

Anybody has experience with that bullet. I am also concern about the lost of accuracy been further away from the rifling. I never loaded a 30-30 deeper than the MAX OAL 2.550"

Thanks

Don't worry so much. Max OAL is just that. And it is only for SAAMI standards. Many older rifles or even custom rifles may take a longer COAL or even a shorter one. Max load in the IMR loading guide I have is 32gn. Go ahead and seat your bullets to the cannelure, 29gn of 3031 should not even be filling it, let alone compressed, if you do. It is better to seat them into the cannelure in the case of a .30-30 so that you can be sure of the integrity of the round.

Thats what I was thinking. The proper COL for that bullet is 2.500" to place the cannelure at the right place.
My book say Max load of IMR 3031 29.2gr. Might be very conservative since I know some people who load 170gr bullet with 30gr of 3031

Thanks
