So the front sight of my single action Uberti 1873 45LC fell off today. Would anyone know of where I could find a replacement front blade for the revolver ?

Thanks

So appears to be a bulge under the front sight. Don't ask me how but it is what it is. Can I get the barrel replaced and about what is the cost ? Or do I have a wall hangar ?

Again Aaaaargggg !!!!!!

Dang. I bet that's frustrating as hell. Sorry to hear of it.

Was it pinned on or soldered? Either way, should be dead simple to make and mount a replacement. Any reason you want an Uberti Original?

Just need to replace it. Seems like it was pressed into a slot on the barrel.

Push comes to shove I'll file something up and epoxy it in.

Is it clean side to side break? how did it fall off? It should slide front to back in to a dovetail cut on the barrel, if it slid out it needs to be slid in back and with thin chisel staked in to place on both sides.
If its lost then it can be made out of any piece of metal, that fit the groove cut on the barrel.

It is just a slot that runs parallel to the barrel. No dovetail. If I can't find a cheap replacement I will make one. Does not look like it broke off just seems to have slid out of the slot.

I may have warranty from Stoeger but with shipping over $50 that may be a cheaper solution.

Q: How good is the Stoeger warranty service in Canada for handguns ?

No idea on specifics, but any decent smith should be able to replace your barrel. Availability may be limited and it will probably take a while.

How long is the barrel? Could it be cut and crowned and still exceed 105mm?

Otherwise, rebarreling would be the way to go.

It is the 5.5 " barrel so it would be pretty close. I will have to measure.

Q: Is barrel legth measured from the face of the forcing cone or from the front of the frame ?

Perhaps the barrel could be cut and then bored out if necessary to clear all traces of the bulge.
Something to watch is the fitting of the ejector assembly. The shortest SAA barrel with ejector is 4 3/4". You might wind up with a 106mm barreled Storekeeper...

Good points tiriaq.

powdergun, sometimes bulged barrels continue to shoot just fine. A bulge right at the muzzle, maybe it's a long shot... But it is not impossible. If you can get a front sight to stay on there.

I would just grab the barrel with my Mitutoyo digital. One jaw on muzzle, the other jaw against the other end. Easy to demonstrate that it exceeds the minimum.

A mid-bore bulge might shoot OK. A muzzle bulge, where the bullet is being released - I would not be optimistic. If it comes to it, I am sure an Uberti replacement barrel could be obtained and fitted. Or a different barrel adapted. The catch with a barrel from a blank, or adapting a different barrel is installation of the ejector assembly.

Removing a SAA barrel is straightforward - but the receiver can be twisted if it is not supported properly. Grabbing the barrel in a vise and then putting a hammer handle through the cylinder window is not a good idea.

I am looking at VTI as a source for a barrel. Is there any hassle ordering from them or do I need to go with someone with the proper exports licenses etc...

Well I knew sights on these dont just fall off by themselves. that's why i was interested how it fell off.

If bulge is under front sight and crown and muzzle end still ok. then since sight is off you can remove the ejector assy. then try to minimize the bulge by hammering the bulge area of the barrel on hard surface, lightly tapping around it with hammer and checking the bore with light until its not visible.

Important not to overdo it, just enough to make bulge disappear. Then after it can be polished to get rid of the marks and reblued. Sight reinstalled etc.

Cutting the barrel or replacing it is usually last resort.

If they'll ship to you in Canada, exporting is their problem. Importing is your problem, and as far as I know it shouldn't be a problem. CBSA can be slow to process gun parts, but gun parts are generally still being received in Canada without major issue. Your replacement barrel is over 4", right?

Yes it is. I messaged them but they said they needed a us address.

Ah, they won't ship to you in Canada, that's too bad. Some people say there is a way to do it yourself (export gun parts from the US), but I've not.

I'd go through Prophet River. Explain the situation and they'll make it easy on you, for a reasonable fee ($50 per item, last I checked). Great comms, by email or phone.

There are alternatives, but there is no better service.

I will do that. Actually bought the gun there too.

Q: Is it possible to switch it to a longer barrel without any major issues ?

Barrel length shouldn't affect installation. A bit of fitting may be required, but that isn't length dependent. The barrel must index, and the barrel/cylinder gap must be correct. A new barrel might screw right on, or it might require adjustment.
