Need suggestions for a 223 action that can take a blank .308 barrel.

I'm looking to have a 7.62x25 bolt action carbine created. I know some Americans have made 7.62x25 brass out of .223 and they shoot regular .308 dia bullets. I'm thinking I will use my local smith to ream the .308 barrel out to 7.62x25 and just work out the feed path myself.

Am I wasting my time? Any suggestions to a brand that I could source out that would easily mate a .223 action with a .308 barrel?

Thanks for comments...

Literally any action will accept a .308 barrel. It's a matter of determining what action you want to run. CZ 527 and it's predecessors would be a good choice due to their small size.

Thanks guys. I didn't realize the threads were standardized. Great news!

Threads are not standardized at all... barrel blanks do not come threaded nor chambered, usually contoured. Your 'smith' will need a chambering reamer and a go gauge. This project will probably cost and arm and a leg...

Ok. Obviously I'm still lost. What brand is the most readily available (read affordable) that I can order a blank .308 barrel for? Where might I best be able to source a receiver for such a barrel?

I'm thinking the cheapest way would be to get a Ruger American Ranch in 300 blackout and have the barrel re-chambered.

edit: scratch that, they come in 16" bbl but chambering to 7.62x25 will shorten the barrel which is pretty much illegal.

Let's try this again. A.308 barrel can be made to fit literally any action. Any barrel you get, new blank, new contoured or a used/takeoff barrel, will require a tenon and thread to be cut to match the accepting action. Some combinations may not be a direct or "easy" fit, and may even require an adapter between the barrel and action union, but regardless, any barrel can be made to work.
