Need to adjust the front sight on my Mosin 91/30.

Hi guys, I'm after some help. I took my new to me 91/30 to the range today, its shooting about 2" to the right at 50 metres. So my question is, do I adjust them by tapping it over to the right slightly using a hammer and small punch, or is there a tool for doing it?

I haven't seen a proper tool for the Mosin yet, although I am also still new at this. I used a hammer and pin punch with the barrel and sight base
supported really well on blocking.

Did you try shooting with the bayo attached?

It was without the bayonet. I'm thinking its going to have to be the hammer and punch method.

The rifle can shoot straighter with the bayo mounted, but if that's not desirable, then drifting the site would be in order.

Google, Elby "range Buddy" makes a sight adjustment tool for the 91/30.

I just use a punch and tap it wit a set of pliers, I don't have a small hammer lol. Works for me on rifles when out at the range.

Mine is on so tight that I needed a 2 pound ball pein hammer to make it move.

Soak in solvent then oil before you try moving it. It likely hasn't been touched in many decades.

They do make a tool as mentioned in prior posts, but a hammer and punch is the cheaper option. I had to use firm force to adjust mine but nothing unreasonable. She shoots straight now.

On both Mosins and SVT's I like to clamp the sight base very solidly in a large vice before doing the drifting- makes it very easy and if it's very tight it makes it easy to do. I find the handles of smallish brass drifts work well for spacers. Just set up the rifle in a shooting rest or cleaning rest such that the tip of the barrel sits between the jaws of the big vice and tighten it up using whatever brass drift handles clamp the sight base but allow the blade to move.
