A fellow that works for me has an 1895 he might be interested in parting with. I haven't seen the rifle yet but he says it was put away damp once and now has a fair amount of surface rust. Apparently the bore and wood are good and he says it functions fine. He doesn't know the age of the rifle as his father bought it used a number of years ago.
I don't know a whole lot about these rifles so what's a rough ballpark for one that needs refinishing? I'll try to get my hands on it for a closer look but I'd like to give him an idea of what to expect.
Is there anything else I should look for that might make it worth more or less?
