Hello fellow gun nutz!

I need some advice. I'm looking to purchase my first precision rifle. The main purpose is target shooting but possibly at some point to hunt with as well. 80% of shooting will be done at 100-200 yards. These are my top 3 choices.

Caliber: 308 win. (Non negotiable!)
Ruger Precision
Howa APC
Savage Ashbury
Budget is $2500 +/- $500 for rifle and scope. (Wife would prefer $2500..) lol

I've been reading and watching reviews for the past month and I just can't decide. I know the Reminton 700 should be in my choices as well but for some reason it's just not the one I want.

I'm hoping to get some opinions from my fellow gun nuts. Thanks for your replies in advance!

Advice that you probably do not want to hear. I have an incredibly accurate custom 223 that I built for f class and I went for a tacticalish type stock choate ultimate sniper. That style of stock and all of those models you mentioned do not ride the bags nearly as well as a more conventional style stock with an angled comb.

All of those chassis rifles are going to weigh 12lbs+ with a scope and full mag. Good for the bench, but they're going to be heavy as hell for hunting.
My opinion - Tikka CTR. Good trigger, smooth action, comes threaded for a brake, and you've got an excellent chance of getting a shooter.
At a lower price point it's worth considering a heavy-barreled Savage 10. The 10T-SR at Cabelas goes on sale pretty regularly. For quite a bit less than the Savage, a heavy-barreled Remington 783 could be another option. Jerry @ Mystic seems to think they're quite underrated. The aftermarket for Tikka and Savage is quite healthy if you want to upgrade anything on those rifles. Looks like goodies are starting to be made for the 783 as well.

If you hunt and target the Steyr Scout 308 with a quality scope will be the best.

A Scout with tailored handload will put you MOA or better. At 7.5 pounds my Steyr Scout and a 1X8X24 S&B is an awesome double duty rifle. My 0.02.

I find the scout slightly too light for benchrest shooting. Mine will shoot around 0.8-0.9MOA with factory Ammo and proper target scope. ( Can't shoot better than 1.5-2 MOA with the thick duplex reticle on the M8 2.5x scout scope) but I find it harder and not as pleasant to shoot then say my tikka arctic which weights 8.5 pounds.

Yes, the Tikka CTR would be an excellent choice for you if you want to have a crossover rifle that can do fairly well at both. Plus the Tikka has a decent upgrade patch as well if you want to change things around a bit later.

Another vote for Tikka!

Excellent rifle for the money! I have the Tac A 1 in 308 and it shoots awesome! Very reliable, well built.

Get the CTR and mount it in a chassis later.
