I tried out my new single shot today with poor results... the gun patterned good and felt good but when shot the action would open and the shell would be ejected... good for a semi, not a break open single....

Here's the details

Pardner single shot 10ga
28in full choke
shooting federal 3 1/2" #2's

at first I though that I may have hit the action release from the recoil but had someone else look while I was shooting and confirmed that my hand was no where near the release....

How do I fix this?

I've read that sometimes it's a lock up issue. When closing the action you have to "slam it shut" to make sure the hinge locks up tightly. Other than that maybe you should e-mail their customer support and ask.

Try giving it a good degreasing and cleaaning. If it's brand new, sometimes there's a lot of grease used in the action for long term storage and shipping. If it's "new" but used it could have a build up of dirt, grease and crud.Again a good cleaning. This can have an effect on your guns lock up. If this doesn't work contact NEF or your local gunsmith.

I'll give all those ideas a try (except the getting rid of it one...LOL) I did buy it used but the previous owner only shot about 5 shots through it apparently... so pretty much new. I haven't cleaned it since I got it so I"m going to do that right now and see... seems like it's just the harsh recoil that is doing it.. when I try to do it just by applying pressure when it's closed there is no way that it'll open...

I had the problem with a rifle once.

But as stated get it clean first, and make sure the latch shelf is clean and degreased. te stuff they pack it with is sticky stuff so it needs some extra elbow grease

If it still opens on fire you might have a latch issue. But this is easy to check and correct. For the latch to work properly you need about 1/8th of an inch od even engagement. Basically take the barrel off and coat the shelf with someting that is easy to get off, smoke, lipstick, dry erase marker, then asseble the gunopen and close the action several times. You should see in a mark in the coating that indicates how far the pin goes up the shelf. On my rifle it was max 1/16 and not even.

To fix it it took some careful light stoning of the shelf, a couple 2,3 light strokes and test (you want to go slow you can't put it back after it is gone). Basically you try to take the high spot out so that the pin gets a proper grip of the shelf.

The only time I get it now is the odd time I don't give it a proper snap together.
