I see in the latest SIR catalogue NEF is offering a triple barrel option-is that because we don;'t have the barrel program in Canada?

Its probably more of a sales pitch. Rossi was offering a triple barrel option with their rifles, though the NEFs are a little better quality than the rossi's.

It's a solid idea, they have had a couple of lame attempts before (that 410 45 colt was a bad one) and the combos seem to make sence too.

considering you can get a frame and 3 barrels for the price of one T/C it doesn't seem a bad deal-and I wondered if it at least partially addressed the fact we don't have the barrel program available in Canada

I doubt they care about us, probably a reaction to new entries in the econo rifle space like the Stevens, leveraging the switch barrel versatility.

A lot of the reason for the lack of the switch barrel here, is after 911 they changed a lot of their export laws. You need a permit to export a barrel. I am sure they have so much business in the states, its not worth their time and effort, exchanging barrels here. They export the rifles and packages, but I don't think they care about the barrels .

I like the combo of the .223, 17HMR and 22LR. That covers any varmint.... Its kind of hit and miss with NEF accuracy though. But its only 379.00

I suppose if you are seriously budget concious it could be considered a deal.
I just don't think that the poor quality of the NEF's warrants the purchase at any price regardless of the number of barrels offered.

when you say''poor quality'' are you refering to poor quality of finish,or something that affects reliabilty and accuracy?Unless its the later,I see a place for a utiltarian product meant to be used, not showcased[not that theres anything wrong with that either-I love my Ruger #1 270]

i brought this up on another thread.....I saw a guy at the shooting range shooting a nef 22-250 and every time he fired the action would open and close quickly, but just a small amount...when I mentioned it to the shooter he said he was aware of it and that he was used to it!

I have also read the on a few threads. Though I did have a 45-70 NEF and the action was solid, never opened up even with hot loads. But it sure kicked.

Open on fire can be an issue, my 204 had it, but it is one of those happy problems, it means you action is a little tight, it is easy to fix, the problem is the locking pin does not have even and/or complete engagement on the shelf. Put some lipstick on the shelf carfully close the action look at the mark it should be even and about 1/8" onto the shelf. Mine was half that and uneven, all I did was lightly stone the high spot and I got full engagement.

Funny thing I go some of my best groups before I fixed the latch problem (the best of that day was a .39 for 3 @100 with plenty of groups in the .5" range I was load testing after all), Yes handi's can take some tweeking. So I guess there have been no $1000 remintons that have not gone back to the factory, and the must all shoot in the .2s since the are at least 3 x better.
