NEF - Varmit calibers

Epp's is listing two .223 chambered H&R Handi-rifles at $389 each. They're also listing a SS .243 with a sythetic stock at $399. H&R, owned by Marlin, holds the NEF name now. I suspect you're right that once a shooter has one they don't sell them. Likely not enough re-sale value. Mind you, $400 plus taxes etc is kind of steep if you ask me.

I have owned a number of them and they all shot quite well. The 17HMR version was my most accurate rifle with the .243 shooting under 1" at 100M as well. Some have horrible triggers, but bar that, I think they are decent for the money....

Will these shoot? I was thinking of a .223 cause they are so cheap, can't find a used one though. Either no one buys em or no one sells em once they have em.

I bought mine off a member here

The 223 version won't shoot (stabilize) modern military ammo, nor does it like warm - hot handloads. Hot loads stick in the chamber, ie. the extractor is kind of wimpy.

I have the H&R .243 Ultra. (same as the NEF) although it is a little finicky, the latch has to be bone dry or the action can pop open on firing. It will shoot 58gr V-max or 60gr Sierras into .5 moa all day over 44gr Varget for 3770fps. With the right loads it will shoot MOA with heavier bullets as well.

They're fine, but I think I'd try Baikal next time. Nothing wrong with the NEF, I've just never had a Baikal before. And I've heard good things.

Also, the Stevens 200 is a good gun for a similar price. Doesn't have the 'romance' that a single-shot does though

I watched a guy shoot one of these in 22-250 and every time he shot the action opened and closed slightly...I asked him about it...he said he was used to it!!

I have a stainless synthetic handi rifle in 223 thats for sale....350 and it comes with a silver bushnell 3-9x50 scope.....150 rounds through it. like the rife, just need the money for my remington LTR fund....
