Neostead shotgun, prohib or no?

I believe the company was saying it it's sales literature that the design is "recieverless". If that is true, than I expect the gun overlords would determine that the bullpup stock is an accessory.

If the ergonomic portions of the shotgun are also structural and mechanical, then the "stock" is also the receiver, and there is no separate, removable stock, as there is with a G22. If this is the case, there is no separate prohibited device bullpup stock, and the shotgun should be non-restricted, as long as the overall length is over the limit. Being manually operated, barrel length is irrelevant. If you are serious, why not ask for a specific ruling?

While I totally agree with your assessment, my suspicion is that if the company have used the word "recieveless" in there literature, the issue will be settled with the CFC/RCMP before they bother looking at the design itself.

I'd love to play with one, if they became available. I particularly like the idea of twin magazines and the ability to select feed from the left, or right, or both.:D

When I called the RCMP technician, I was told that they would need to inspect and evaluate the firearm before they could say whether it is a prohib or non-restricted. Since I did not have an extra $1000 to maybe loose, I dropped the issue.

Why can't we get a clear set of rules for importation of firearms...

On another thread from 09/2007, some one indicated that these were available in Canada... this true to anyones knowledge, as I can't find a dealer that carries. Or do I have to look at getting it as an individual?

I would rather pay big bucks for an advanced design than on one of the pretty Italian guns. $2000.00 is a price a heard of in Italy, everything there is taxed highly and the retail mark-ups are high. It probably be had for $1200 from the Italian maker, the South African shoult be far cheaper with the labour costs there.

I got this email a while back...

Dear Michel

Thank you for your interest shown in the Neostead shotgun.

The estimated price is approximately USD 1600.00 ex works, Midrand, South Africa

We would sell direct to Canada should you be interested.

Spare parts would be available in South Africa for export to Canada.

Kind regards
