Hopefully this will help some 10/22 noobs - like me.
I've had 10/22s before but never really tinkered with them. The trigger pull on my new one was annoying me, as was the bolt release.
I read about all the upgrades available, and decided on trying the Volquartson/Yellow Jacket kit from cheapgunparts.com, via ruger22.com.
I also picked up their punch set - 16 bucks for 4 brass 4 steel punches, bargain!
The kit arrived in about a week, very well packaged and included a little 'thank you' note and 2 fridge magnets. Nice.
I fitted the goods this morning. Had the laptop open on the desk and used the guides on the ruger22.com website. The pics and instructions were really easy to follow and helped me gain confidence with it.
When you have the whole trigger group apart, you look at it and think "what have I done..." DON'T WORRY!!
Follow the guides again, and they all pop back into place easily. A couple of wiggles here and there and it all slots in nicely.
Impressions so far? The trigger pull is about 1/3 of the weight it used to be on dry firing, I'm guessing around 3lbs. The auto bolt release works like a dream - from an open bolt just pull bolt and release...aahhhh that's better
Buffer sounds a bit quieter too.
Looking forward to hitting the range and trying it out in a couple of days. I'll add a review then.
At this point I'd say to anyone new to 10/22s, just try it!
Folllowing guides make tearing it down really easy. Helps you understand the working of the rifle simply and makes you realise how easy it is to tweak it.
