Hey all,
Just picked up a new 10 22 and have noticed some semi circular lead
Clippings on the bench under the mag. What is causing This?
Thanks
I believe the mag was seated, it cycled

Do you have another mag to try? Might be the existing mag or a sharp edge on the chamber? I'd do the simplest first and try another mag.

Does it do this with only 1 brand of ammo or with all? Keep it simple change one variable at at time.

I tried out 4 kinds of ammo and only noticed it after firing Blazer, which also stove piped 3 times in 10.
So I'm not sure if it had been doing it all along or not. It seemed to continue after but I will have to go back to retry the gun

All other brands fired fine.

Are you sure it's lead and not wax scraped off the cartridge? I've noticed that CCI Blazer and SV seem to be extra waxy compared to my other .22 ammo

Hmmm.....wonder if there's something to it.......this is the 2nd time I have heard of this problem on the new rugers. ???

Only have the one mag for now but I will check to see how wobbly it is. It seemed looser than they used to be last time I owned one. But that may just be my memory

I have the thing all apart to do some (hopefully) accuracy upgrades. With the action out, the mag snaps right into place with no wobble.

Shaving a sliver of lead off the bullet is obviously due to there being a sharp edge along the bullet feed path, somewhere. The fact that it's semi-circular and ends up on the bench and not IN the mag suggests it's happening after it leaves the magazine, but before it's chambered (Likely the feed ramp? I forget what they look like on the 10/22). That narrows it down to a fairly small area... Might have to do some disassembly, but I'm sure you (Or your gunsmith, depending on how mechanically competent you are. No offense intended, you either are or aren't) will find a sharp edge that wasn't deburred after machining. A few quick passes with the right needle file should clear things up.

My CZ does this with one flavour of .22LR as well. Think it was the Wildcat hollow point copper coated. Just need to watch out it doesn't jam things up.
