How about this idea.....chinese made 303 british barrels.....the shorter the better.....I'm thinkin the 7.62x39 is damn close to .311....they'll need to be chambered to 303 british and threaded to fit SMLE or #4 rifles c/w extractor cut...maybe even chrome lined:eek:.....other 303 owners, what say you?!?!?!

what would be the shortest length we could get and still end up with a minimum legal non-restricted length.....:D:D

Damage and modding are much the same thing. You can't really go back.

You would also need at the tools to do the barrel swap. vise, headspace gages, etc.

The easiest way is using a Brewer collar.

The other issue is the barrels would be supplied with no sights.

Brewer collar. Clamp band front site. Rotate sight until it indexes, tighten. Like an AIA. Muzzle threads for a brake? Chamber in .303; 7.62x39? .45ACP? Somehow the idea of a 14" .303 barrel is a bit unsettling.

I already have a sporter enfield. I'm not interested per se but people in my situation would find getting a .303 barrel well redundant. My .02 is the 7.62x39 would be a better bet. But in the that case would the feed need to be modified? I dont think the 7.62x39 works out of a smle mag.

However if this did manage to go ahead, my interest level could change.

Can't help but get more interested in this. 7.62x39 in a carbine length barrel would be great. Mines a SMLE and not a No.4 though... kinda problematic for scope mounting compared to a No.4

i am after a short as legal 303 british rifle so a factory made less than 18 inch is my best option....not worried about flash or kick...it would be a beater protection rifle for my yukon bush adventures....not after one in 7.62 x 39 just 303.....this would need to be threaded for a #4 rifle and chamber 303B the extractor cut i would have to make after i headspace the barrel to my action

my no 1 mkIII has had an 18.5 inch barrel on her for a few seasons now,,,,, love it...... but a 14"....... gawd that would be nasty, loud and obnoxious hehehe

I would love a 14" 7.26x39 bolt gun......hmmm make this happen and I will buy one!

Buddy just had one done up in 18.5" and it looks fantastic. No matter what I offered, he wasn't parting with it. 14"? Person would always have to use hearing protection - even when hunting.

I guess a Jungle Carbine is too nice to mod up is it? I was lucky to find a commercially converted No4 Mk1 here on the EE Forums. I'll post pics once it arrives here via Canada Post. :D I needed a truck gun/camp gun and this cut down No 4 Mk 1 will do the job. Now to handload some 123 gr .310 Hornady bullets .... heh heh heh

Merry Chrismukkah!
