New 1911 hammer's shape won't allow sear to engage.

Managed to get a C&S 0226 drop in kit for my Norc 1911.

After multiple re-assemblies, I finally figured out the problem was the hump on the grip safety not allowing the new hammer the movement to engage the sear.

Is there any reason I can't or shouldn't grind the grip safety to get the clearance it needs?
Is there a drop in beaver tail kit that dose not require machining the frame?

Original hammer over new with front face of both hammers even.

Burr hammers don’t work with the original grip safety you need a beaver tail with a cut to accept the burr.

Yes but you may still need to re-work the trigger engagement area.

Get an Ed brown or similar beaver tail.

Try to grind it first, if it works and it’s safe you save yourself buying something.
If you mess it up, at least you tried and un-doubtedly had fun in the process!

That’s true you you just bob the back of the grip safety off completely.

I installed a Cylinder & Slide kit in mine Had the same prob file the area & leave a little clearance The metal filed easy

Think I'll try grinding original into a rat tail configuration. Can always get a beaver tail later, if needed.

Did not need to take off too much to see it work.
Now just to deepen it so hammer won't slam into grip safety on recoil.

Typically, as the slide moves rearward, it will take the hammer past the sear engagement. Put the slide on and check that clearance again when you rack the slide back.

Also, dont dry fire your 1911s without the slide on.

Nice looking trigger too. While you've got it apart, grab some feeler gauges and check the hammer hooks. Some can be in the 0.024" region. Myself, I trim mine to 0.018", but don't go any lower.

Final look before I touch up the grip safety grind marks with Oxpho Blue.
