Currently researching my next F T/R .308 win build.

Looking for reviews & load data on Sierra`s new 200 HPBT matchkings with their seemly freakish BC of .751...…. doesn't seem to be a whole lot of info out there.

Wondering if anyone has built/chambered their rifle around this new projectile yet, and what their results were like?

If anyone is will to share how they grouped, are they difficult to tune, are their bearing surfaces & metplats consistent etc.

Cheers,

Mike

Been testing it over the summer... lost alot of time due to forest fires and smoke but the bullets seem to be working well.

They are very long and pointy with a short bearing surface... you will not need a long throat for this bullet. Chambers that have been successful with the Berger 185gr Juggernaut will work just fine.

I am around 20 thou off the lands, Varget, Lapua brass, CCI 450 primers... drop has been significantly flatter then other bullets I have shot so the BC is up there.

Hope to shoot a match in Oct and will know more then.

Early LR testing indicates, the 200gr MK is flying flatter then the 200-20X

So far..... so good.

Awesome. Thanks for sharing Jerry!
I have followed through with your advice in the past and had great success.

Would you mind if asked what kind of:

1) barrel make,
2) twist rate and # grooves
3) barrel length,
4) What kind of velocities were you able to achieve.

Cheers,

Mike

I would suggest a SAAMI 308 win reamer to start... and move the throat as desired... you really don't want a long throat with this bullet.

I compete with and offer match barrels from Shilen and Krieger. I don't get worked up about rifling styles or land counts. Quality manf will always matter more.

As is typical with FTR rigs, we run barrels 30 to 32"... I run 30" barrels and I am just under 2600fps.

Twist rates are still being experimented with....

I got a barrel made for these bullets this spring to start shooting some FTR, but havent made it to a match yet though. lol I have enjoyed shooting them this summer. Gave me confidence to really reach out there thats for sure. First 308 for me so I cant compare them to another bullet.

JCC 30" barrel

around .130FB would have to go back and look

Also using varget lapua brass but 250's though

Thanks Jerry.
Long, pointy bullets....reminiscent of my load development for 90 VLDs couple years ago.
It was tedious to find the "seating sweet spot" but only because I moving in increments of 0.002 at time... in hindsight I should have initially been moving in increments of about 0.008 to .010.

Would a person be wise to use the VLD seating stem in their Redding dies with these 200s?

Thanks for the offer on a barrel, but I already committed a barrel purchase from the the Smith that ordered my action and will be performing the work.

I decided to go with a 1 in 9 twist Kreiger 30"

However, will you be selling these bullets (if so, what is the current lead time like)?

I have boxes of 500 instock... pm or email to discuss.

I would definitely look at a VLD seating stem... I use a Forster seater and it works great. I worked my seating depth in 5 thou increments... but started playing with powder charge first.

If you start 20 thou off the lands, you might be just fine.
