New 22/45

I was just on Ruger's web page and noticed that they have a new 22/45 that has removable 1911 grips....

No doubt, it seems that on the new model you will need to remove a bit of grip material to clear the bolt stop.

Look closely, I don't think you will be putting on an aftermarket set of 1911 grips on these without some shaping, too bad really, i have a nice set of micarta grips that would have been perfect....

My first thought is how do they keep you from stripping out the grip screw holes? Metal on plastic is usually not a good mate when screws are involved. I know, as I'm a notorious over-tightener!

My second thought is, I want one!

You can find stepped metal bushings with female thread.
They can be pressed in the frame from the inside.

I suppose it saved them a couple of bucks years ago, but false economy. I'm used to the plastic handle and it doesn't feel like a 1911 anyway, so I'll stick to what I have.

Come to think of it, I could take a mold off my 1911, and mold JB Weld stocks for the 10/22. A few bucks, but it might not be ugly enough .
