New 308 bolt for 2016 suggestions.

Thanks for the information so far, but i would feel more comfortable with more suggestions. $1000.00 is a lot of money for a small family and do not wish to "piss into the wind" as it were.

I wouldn't call the Scout a "tack driver" like OP mentioned he was interested in... Ruger Scouts are tons of fun, really portable, and a great "all purpose" rifle. But if he wants a "tack driver" for a thousand bucks, a Savage 10-TR or Savage 10-FCP-SR would be more accurate

Clearly you haven't spent much time behind the wheel of a Ruger Scout. I've had three now and they were .5-.75" shooters easily with minimal load development. Rugers newer production bolts are as accurate as any other in their price range.
My latest is a Composite with the 16" barrel and it's the one that prints half an inch consistently, the others were 18" Laminated and they held comfortably under an inch.
I've been around my share of rifles running the full spectrum of pricing, and a consistent Sub-MOA rifle isn't as common as some would like to believe.
The elusive "tack-driving, one-holed cloverleafer" is all to commonly found for sale on the EE, but I've only ever found a handful.

I'll recommend the Ruger Scout as well. I love mine, it's well made and functional. It's not a pretty rifle for showing off, but it is one that should last a few lifetimes.

Some nice looking Vanguard rifles for 2016....

You've picked the wrong hobby! Stay away from guns and boats.

Just started so not sure what Gun stands for but I know Boat stands for Break Out Another Thousand!

I'm in a similar boat a though I just buy a 3-400$ Vortex 3-9x or 4-12x and spend the extra on the rifle get yourself a nice browning (even semi auto in that range). I'm either going with an Axis on the low end (more money for my comp pistol) or stepping into a Benelli R1 (don't ask). I though I would love the Savage Modern Scout, however after seeing it up close it was a piece of crap (never seen rougher molding edges on a 1000$ gun. Lol and watch Hickok45 review it lol it's commical how bad it is.
