Very cool rifle. Very cool bipod. I heard that the said bipod is based on that of the old BREN. It has a lower profile than a Harris, and is less likely to draw unwanted attention.

I think you bought the right tool for precision rifle. Better to spend the big bucks now, and get it right for the first time, as opposed to screwing around with a bunch of junk. Well done.

I would buy one myself, but I cannot stand the thought of giving money to the limies. I would go with a Finn rifle myself, for that reason alone.

Did you mean 'Yanks'???

Except for the builder, all of the stuff is US produced or distributed.

If you feel like supporting the Can industry, we got great barrel, action, stock manf in Canada. You could also buy Japanese or European for the optics.

See nothing coming up north.

A very nice rig by the way. Looks like a nice rig to reach out to a mile.

I know a place.....

i just may have to take you up on that mystic...

I gotta get in some good practice first, I have a spot at the farm that I can set up and shoot up to 1700 yards or so.....basically the beggining of a quater section to the end of a second quarter, and I have access to the land for the next 4 quarters straight behind it, although they are all treed after that......I have all the data inputed into the nightforce Exbal program I have,

I imagine its a good place to start, but how close would you think it is??

Beautifuel toy, After Rick builds my custom trunk gun, one of his 338's is next on my list.

Big Bill, go for an Alberta born and raised rifle; keep it in the country besides, the twist rate on the AI and the Sako isn't really designed for long range shooting quite like the 5R from Rock Creek. There is such a difference between the standard Lapua shooting the 250gr Scenars and the Lapua AI shooting the 300gr SMK that they aren't even in the same league anymore. I haven't looked up drop charts for the 250gr doing 2800ish fps lately but with a 100yd zero, the 300gr doing 2985fps (mag fed) only drops 17MOA at 1000yds. and still drills into the 1" steel plate 3/16" of an inch at that distance.
The other rifles are great rifles, don't get me wrong, but when you have the chance to own something like this vs a manufactured purpose built rifle like those, it's like night and day.

This particular rifle was build with even the length of barrel taken into close consideration and tested in increments to achieve the results it has.

I'm trying to track down a 3/4" steel plate to do some more testing on because we haven't been able to find anything that will penetrate the 1" plate we're using; not even 50BMG API at a distance of 600yds. It did about as much damage as the 338LM AI did at 300yds.

Congrads on the rifle; that rifle is definitely worthy of the Summerland shoot in April of 2008. We'll keep you posted as we get closer to the date.

I think we'd all like to see someone build a really good action that would contend with the likes of Nesika but for now, it's a hard one to beat. As for the barrels, even though there are a lot of good barrel makers in Canada, again it's tough finding a barrel maker that's at the front lines of the larger calibers like the 5R from Rock Creek.

Mystic, what barrel and twist do you have on your 300RUM? Correct me if I'm off on the caliber but the light wood coloured one with the shiny pipe.

Brad, that is the whole point of the shoot. To come out, burn some powder, experience LR shooting. You don't need to be an expert to come but you will leave ALOT more experienced.

The big first is getting a load with very little vertical dispersion. We know the rig is 1/4 MOA capable so make sure you tune your load so that the 'football' is wide and short, not the other way around. Vertical dispersion will drive you insane the further out you go. Best to test at 200yds. 300/350yds is better.

Once you get a load that meets your expectations, just dial up the scope. On a calm day, going from 350yds to 1000yds is another 15min of up. An accurate/consistent rifle makes it that easy.

you will quickly learn if you flinch...SCHWING....

Glock, at 1000yds, 1/2" mild steel is going to be tough to shoot through especially if it swings.

Granite on the other hand just BLOWS UP....those poor rocks :)

The 300RUM wears a 35" Bevan King barrel with a 10 twist. A nice solid 1/2 MOA shooter at closer distances with sub MOA at 1000m.

Hopefully, things will work out for another early April shoot.
