New 686 woes.

So the gun is back home. I think she looks pretty sweet. The S/A is certainly lighter and the D/A is a great deal smoother but she don't always go bang. I talked to Murray and he tells me not to sweat it, just adjust 'er until she does go bang everytime and, when I'm ready, send it in to him for a final polish once I figure out what kind of weight I can get away with. This is the first time I've ever had anything like this done to a gun so I'm going to follow his advice. For anyone who doesn't already know Mr. Charlton is a very easy man to talk to and has been very generous with his time and effort on my new iron.

Still doesn't go bang every time? He tells you not to sweat it and just adjust it till it does? Isn't that what you sent it to him for? Hey I'm gonna be a gunsmith. Maybe me and Sunray can have a shop doing triggers.....I got a hammer and a few chisels...

It goes bang every time now, just not with winchester ammo. The strain screw setup has been changed as well. With the new one, you can't "bottom it out", if you keep tightening it, you could thread it from one side of the grip to the other. But yeah, it goes bang every time with the UMC cartridges.

It has stopped blasting me with bits of powder, as well. Seems that it was only the winclean that did that. Peculiar.

Glad it's working good now. The only gun I had with a lead spitting problem was my Dan Wesson with the different screw in barrels. Even with the gauge the gap was hard to get right.
