Just bought a Tikka (9.5" twist) for the wife to shoot and need to build a load. I figured I'd start with Varget but I also have H4350, RL-17, and VV N160. Picked up some 140 TTSX's to start with. I'm open to bullets down to 120 but as it's mostly intended for moose which is why I picked the 140.

Any input on your preferred loads?

JMHO but I think for the TTSX or TSX more speed is better for reliable expansion.

I've used 140 TTSX from a 7 Rem Mag on moose with ok results.

I wouldn't be worried using the 120 TTSX's on moose from a 7-08 :)

I'd have to check again but I estimated that with a conservative load the 140 TTSX would still have the necessary velocity for expansion out to 500 yards. Would have bought 139 LRX but couldn't find any. The 140 TTSX were available and on sale, which was pretty much the deciding factor on starting there.

Not set on a mono bullet either.

Our best 7mm-08 groups with a 140 NAB is 46-47gr of H414. Not a fan of the powder in summer, but for the fall hunting rounds, it shoots great! Was better than R16&17/H4350/Varget/H4007
Shot two moose with it, both dropped with one shot to the boiler room. Same with whitetails, just a dandy round/load.

At those speeds the nosler bt are great. Even the 120gr which is alot tougher than alot of people realize. Accubonds are always great. Really any 140 gr cup and core will work great, maybe lean to something a little tougher for moose but its not a must have, especially at 2800 fps.

140 tsx, I agree with the one poster above that a 120 would be a better choice. Keep the speed up they need it. What barnes calls expansion at low volocity is questionable.

I can easily get the 7-08 to 3100fps with a 120 grain TTSX and Reloder 15. Very accurate load as well. The Barnes at speed hit like absolute hammers. I put an 80 grain 6mm TTSX through the shoulder of a buck quartering too this November. He didn’t take a step, fell over dead! I’d shoot a moose with a 120 out of a 7-08 without hesitation!

Awesome choice of Cartridge man, the 7mm08 is my fave!

fwiw the 140gr prob more suited for those big moose? but the 120 ttsx is a awesome deer round.

it isnt something i shop for but a 130gr ttsx would b 708 medicine for all...

I prefer 140 gr Nosler Accubonds, but they're near impossible to find now. If you can find the 140 Nosler BT, they are dimensionally identical and cheaper for working up loads. I've dropped a moose and several white tail with the AB.

I've also used 120 Nosler BT on whitetail and Mule deer. It has served well

I haven't used them on an animal but the Hirady 139 SST shoot well in my 7-08s. I've had decent luck with the SST on deer in other caliber.

All loads have been over varget. I've tried h4350 but didn't the velocities I wanted. Also tried 6.5 Staball but I found the pressure curve gets steep very rapidly on the upper end loads. Otherwise the 6.5 didn't produce the magic 100 fps gain over other powders until you hit that very fine line, but again, pressure signs showed up rapidly.

I have killed a deer and a bear with tsx. They work great.
I have some Ttsx I am going to work up a load with this winter. Hope to put to the test on a bear this spring.

They do need some speed to work effectively I believe.

I got 3 rifles that shoot them SUB moa.
