It's a Norinco. I took it apart to get the cosmoline off. When I reassemble, where I get stuck at is inserting the action bars. It won't even get past the right shell latch most or all of the time as far as I can tell.

So the action bars stop where they are supposed to, I think. But if I somehow get the action bars past the right shell latch, the carrier is in the way of the bolt. I don't think I've ever gotten to a point where pressing the left shell latch makes a difference.

It's pretty hard too with the slide block and the breech bolt jiggling and sliding around while I am fiddling with the action bars.

So what is going on?

Slide the action bars into the receiver till it stops. In the receiver on the right side more towards the forward end, you'll feel around for the right shell latch, depress it and slide the fore-end back till you hit the left shell latch...find the left one just like in disassembly and bring the fore-end back home.

Hi,

The advice I first received is correct and fits the manual. But the problem is that when I get the bolt assembly and the action bars up into receiver and it hits the right shell latch, after I depress the right shell latch it still won't go back (sometimes the bolt goes back on its own though)

Hmm... let me check that hammer

As much as I like solving problems with brute force, this may not be the case. Make sure you are fully depressing the latch, if it still won't slide back then check the opposite latch or anywhere else that it might bind.

betcha it's the hammer. I've fought with mine and crapped bricks when I thought I've taken it apart and couldn't put it together again. Figured it out before heading to the 'smith. thank goodness.....

Also check the actual position of the bolt on the slide. Keep the whole set up parallel with the ground and do as mentioned above. if the bolt is rearward on the slide then the locking lug will prevent it from going further back in the receiver.

Boltgun

After you depress the right latch you have to move it forward about 1/16" and THEN you can release the left one and slide the assembly back. Remember then you will have to hit the action release to fully open the action.
Don't use brute force here, finesse is the plan.
Hope that helps
Cheers
