A 27 inch Lilja barrel on a trued 700 action in a McMillan stock with a 4.5 x 14 Long Range Leupold in lapped dual dovetail mounts and a Holland brake and recoil lug. The trigger is a crisp 2 pounds. Total weight 9.75 pounds. It balances at the recoil lug. The brake thread has Never-Seize grease on it to prevent blow back carbon buildup.

Another fine looking rig there!

I have to wonder though, at close to 10lbs, is the brake really necessary?

Ditch the brake!

I used to shoot my uncles 8 when I was 12 years old and weighed 90 pounds. I actually enjoyed shooting it. Nice looking rig (except the brake). The 8RM is a cartridge that should be revived.

Like it or not (and I'm not a muzzle brake fan), 8mm Rem Mag owners were some of the more frequent muzzle brake customers. In addition, a brake almost makes sense on a rifle intended for long range hunting. It's hard to spot your own shots if the rifle jumps around too much.
I built a similar rifle a year or so back but with a Bansner stock and no brake.
Dennis,
The 8MM Mag reamer I bought appears to have been reground from a 50BMG reamer. I've not had any other reamer this long. The belt is only halfway back! Has to sit kitty corner to fit in the toolbox drawer. Works fine but it's hard to like it. If it ever needs sharpening, there's plenty material to work with! Regards, Bill.

Beautiful work !! Including the brake !!!!

It always amazes me the number of people who get bent out of shape when other people don't set up their rifles the way they would like.
