Heard through the grapevine AHEIA is putting up a new facility in the Tofield area. Heard there is to be 6 or 8 trap fields, a couple skeet fields and a 5-stand. Anybody else heard anything about it? I had heard Edmonton Gun Club was approached about joining together at their current site but was not interested so they looked for another location and Tofield is the go to spot. I know there is a sporting clays course around Tofield, maybe they have joined up at that facility? If the Tofield site is anything like the one south of Calgary it ought to be a heck of a first class facility!

Was there not a similar rumour several years ago that never came to fruition?

If there is anything to this story it should be funded by hunting license money.

I understand that AHEIA aquired some land somewhere east of Edmonton some time back and they wanted to join up with the Edmonton Trap Club to build a new range but there was some sort of dissagreament with the Edmonton club management and have decided to stay on their own. Rumour also has it that there may be a rifle range and sporting clays range happening there as well.

Pretty much what I had heard and someone I shoot with who is "in the know" a bit more than most confirmed that is the case and that the new ranges are going in around Tofield somewhere.

I investigated the OP rumour when it first came out years and years ago. No one wanted to talk to me from the AHEIA after numerous phone calls.
I did not know the Edmonton Gun Club was involved.
I initially believed an Alberta Shooting Centre like Calgary has was in the making.
My question is why a shooting range like Calgary was not created?
WHO decided that such a shooting range like Calgary would not be funded.
These are questions that remain unanswered.
Just like where did the international trap system end up when the Strathcona Range was shut down.

Has the AHEIA turned anti-gun?

Mister Falconflyer and Mister Spank there is something that is not being divulged to the shotgun shooters of Alberta.

How much political power does the Edmonton Gun Club have on their Federal Land owned site?

I am exhibiting questions from fellow shotgun folks.

I don't think AHEIA is anti-gun?! Seems like a real dumb question to me when they have a very active set of ranges in Calgary. Like any club being built it takes $ to fund and beuracracy to get through. I will try to find out more this coming weekend at an upcoming shoot that I know will have at least one EHEIA exec present at. As for Strathcona range equipment ask the past exec where it got to. There is an international range in Calgary but nobody shoots it from what I understand. I don't think shotgunners in AB are being denied anything.

I believe when a person asks honest questions there should be honest answers. When one does not even receive an answer or is sent down the "rabbit hole" further enquiry is mandatory.

I believe my personal audit regarding questions to the above institution has yet to be complete.

That is all I have to say.

I don't have those answers. I am not on the board of directors at AHEIA and it seems you are upset with whoever is? Maybe contact them and try to find answers to your questions there? I know I'll be asking a board member about the Tofield rumors in person this coming weekend at an upcoming shoot. Hopefully he'll be in a position to confirm or deny the rumors if nothing else.

Thank you Mr. Spank.

I am upset. There were initial plans of modeling the very successful Calgary operation, adapting it a more northerly environment, and requesting the Calgary folks and other consultants to assist in a very effective and efficient operation getting the best bang out the buck. The idea of using the Calgary people would be to reduce birthing , teething and growing problems as the operation proceeded.

And poof. Everything suddenly disappeared. And why?

I can't answer all of your questions either Bluelunx but what I can say is that the AHIEA executives are most definately pro gun and to suggest otherwise only shows how very little you know about the organisation.
Setting up a gun range takes months and even years of doing noise studies, safety studies and getting permits so nothing happens fast. This country has slowly transformed into a place bound by bureaucracy and it seems like it's easier for the government at all levels to say no than to approve permits for development. Anything can hold up permits for months, just one complaint from someone opposed to the project can delay things indefinatly while the complaint is investigated and on top of that the people making the approvals move at a snails pace. All I can say is that work is in progress but I don't think anyone can say just how long things will take.
Furthermore, addressing your remark that no one from AHEIA would talk to you about this years ago, do you really think that anyone would be authorised to talk publicly about a project that early on? I don't think that you talked to anyone very high up on the chain of command by the sounds of it and haveing run businesses myself, I would make sure no one but the executive commitee would be privy to any information regarding the project at that stage.

Thanks for the taking the time to explain the intricate particulars of setting up a decent range.

What you have written is all I was asking for as an answer.

My mind recalls the days when I was a Hunter Training instructor using the facility run by the late Mr. Christensen near Athabasca. Life was more simple in those days.

A lot of things have changed.

I will not pursue this issue any longer.

Best wishes to everyone. My apologies for any insults.
