Try PMC Zappers if you can find them. They work for me in most of my older rifles.

Depends on how old you are talking about. HighSpeed Smokeless/High Velocity ammo did not appear until the mid 30's....
I'd be leery of the high velocity fodder in guns from before the late 30's. I've got a couple from the turn of the century that see nothing but CB Shorts from CCI- just about the mildest load I can find.
