New and waiting!

Hi,

I am very new to the firearms world, but am very interested and eager to learn what I can.

I am awaiting my PAL in the mail and hoping to buy a Walther P99 when it does arrive.

I was introduced to shooting by a workmate and I got hooked.

I am hoping to try my hand at pistol shooting and skeet/trap as well.

Having convinced my wife that it will be safe for my daughters, I am looking around at what I should buy as my first pistol and first shotgun.

I am always open to any help, suggestions or comments.

Cheers,

Stephen

Hello and welcome. Do be careful with the guns around the kids. Enjoy the site.

Welcome to the site! Programable combination locks and trigger lock are the way to go. A bit more, but worth it.

Fair enough ... did not even think about the bad guy factor!

Time to change my idea ... still have all that waiting time to actually get my PAL.

Wish I had read the tips on how to get it faster prior to sending it out!

Cheers,

S

welcome aboard!

greeting and salutations...lol

The only thing I would suggest, depending on your children's ages would be some gun handling safety.
Neither you nor myself are the only gun owners in the world. A basic knowledge beyond just don't touch it could prevent a tragedy .

welcome to the forum. when it comes to safety for the kids trigger locks lockable cases and out of sight out of mind. i have a three year old girl and she likes guns and wants a pink .22lr and through my guns i have been showing her what to do and what not to do.
a basic knowledge of guns for the kids never hurt anyone. they then know not to touch them. it is the bone heads who leave their handguns in a drawer unlocked for kids to take make it hard for us

I have applied for both the restricted and non restricted PAL (It said check all that apply).

When it comes to safety, I am all for anything that will make it safer around my girls and that includes courses for me and perhaps the older one.

It does make more sense to have coded locks rather than ones that rely on keys.

I think once I have my PAL-R in hand, I will feel easier about spending the money on courses and safes ... I could do it know .... BUT. I want to wait to see that I am actually approved.

Thanks for all the advice and PMs.
