new ar is this normal

Hey there, i have just put together an Ar and have a question.
I have not been able to get to the range yet so I do not know if this is normal. When the bolt is fully rearward and the bolt catch is holding it back there seems to be abit of the bolt still visible in the ejection port. Is this normal?

pica included and I must say wow what a great time getting parts together and assembling this was.
Any help appreciated.

Your bolt catch is not stopping on the bolt. It is stopping on the Bolt Carrier, that is why you can still see your bolt. Pull the charging handle back further and lock it up on the bolt's face and you will see a difference.

It looks too far forward to me. Is the bolt stop against the front edge of the bolt, or is it against the front of the bolt carrier?

Is your rifle using a carbine stock? If so, are you using a carbine buffer as opposed to a rifle length buffer?

the bolt will not go to the rear any farther. The bolt catch when trying to engage is just missing the bolt by abit. It is resting on the bolt carrier. I am using a CAA carbine stock. just like the ones from questar. I am not sure if the buffer is the proper one one but it should be. the bolt is new I dont think it would be that.

If it is the wrong buffer will I just need to replace it alone ?
 
It looks like the buffer tube may have loosened off (backed out) causing the buffer tube retaining stop to pop out allowing the buffer tube to push against your bolt... thus not allowing your bolt to catch.

I have seen this a few times. When you disengage your rear pin to open your AR, make sure the buffer stop and spring don't go flying out.

well it now travels to the rear enoght that the catch rests where it should.
BUT....
the nipple which holds the buffer spring and buffer in place is being held in place by just the forward pressure of the buffer onto it. Is that normal?
In order to get the bolt to go more to the rear I had to unscrew the buffer tube 2 full turns. thx again for the input.

Your butt stock screw is too long!!!
Remove the butt stock screw and see if everything moves OK.
What length of butt stock? Carbine stock with rifle buffer?
Check the screw first!

The edge of the buffer tube should be slightly over the wider section of the buffer stop pin so that the pin does not come out. The pin is there to stop the buffer from coming out of the tube, push down on the pin and then the buffer will come out. If your pin stays in place when you push the buffer back slightly into the tube then it should be ok.

??? the carbine stock does not have any screw in the tube.

If the buffer stop pin is ok, I would look at the buffer length.
