I had a chat with the marketing folks at the Armalite booth and asked about a new AR180.

Turns out they were already working on bringing back an improved version this year with an aluminum lower and some other changes. He would not give me any specifics, but said it was essentially the same design with a better lower.

They shelved it after the current BS in the states - they have little extra capacity and were not sure a new rifle that might get banned would be a good plan.

The gentleman I was taking to was very interested in why it was so popular in Canada, and so I explained the whole NR thing to him (as much as you can ever explain our gun laws).

In short, once the dust settles, if there is no comprehensive AWB, we might see a new AR180 up here.

Surely an AWB should only make our market look more attractive? And isn't the 180 prohib, it's the 180b that's nr?

The ban might force manufacturers to flat out just stop making "assault weapons" for civilians. If they aren't allowed to be made, how can we get any?

I'm feeling positive though. Hopefully since the only thing they're working on is a new lower, it shouldn't take too long.

The following is an e-mail that we sent to ArmaLite this morning and their reply. There has been “talk” of putting the AR180B back into production for several years but she was never very profitable for ArmaLite.

Hi Chris / Mike

It was great to meet with you on Friday, thank you for all the information supplied.

We have received e-mails requesting information on your “NEW AR180” are you putting this back into production as a new model?

Could you please provide pricing and delivery, also please provide the same information for both your new shotgun and revolver. Thanks.

Best regards,
Pat

There is no AR180 in the works. We have no shotgun and revolver program for 2013. They were prototypes that Mark wanted out for dealer feedback. Hope this clarifies those emails. Chris

If they make a new one, I want a version that resembles the 1970s-era configuration, with iron sights and NO PICATINNY RAILS!
