New Barnes hunting bullet

Crap. I just got the bloody TSX's flying right. Now I must buy delrin-tipped, tungsten-laden ultra-long range bullets.

Why, they be real purty!:D
Seriously though, they look COOL!
Must cost a mint though.
Barnes Bullets already cost about $50 a pack of 50 here in Oz.
Just imagine load development......I can feel my back pocket hurting already.:(
Still, with that ###y blue tip they're awful tempting.
But why aren't they making them in 8mm or .312 cal?

barnes

I have been a fan of the partition for 35 years but those new barnes bullets are somthing i am going to try for sure, i happen to own a 270WSM, 7MM rem, 338WM and 25-06 so i can get bullets for 3 of the 4.

They look like they might open up a lot easier than the standard x-bullet. I've never tried the Barnes X but I have heard from some folks that they don't expand reliably. I'm sure on a shoulder or bone shot, the standard X-bullet would be devastating however, I do know a fellow that shot a big bull moose twice through the lungs with a 300 Win Mag with Fail Safes (which I believe is the same as an X-bullet) and the moose didn't even flinch. He finally dropped it with a hump shot. These bullets look like they have the expanding advantage that you would have with a flat nose bullet but they have the ballistic coefficient of a spire point. What do you guys think?

These Barnes bullets make Grand Slams look cheap. I'm gonna stick with the cheaper premiums for moose. Regular bullets for deer.

Failsafe's are completely different. I haven't heard one good thing about them. The original X had some issues, but that was probably 15 years ago. I have a box of the 7mm 160gr of the original design. They look completely different than newer ones. The hollow point is tiny and looks almost canted, kind of like a match bullet of some sort. I haven't used the X in my .300, but my friend shot a beautiful muley buck with his .300 WM and 200gr X a few years back. It was a 75 yard shot and the deer dropped, true that it was a head on shot and the bullet was recovered under the hide by the ham. Nice mushroom, awesome weight retention (198.X gr IIRC) and great damage along the path of the bullet.
