I did some patterning with a new rem 1100 barrel and different choke and shot combinations.I tried some # 2 steel,BB steel, two types of rifled slugs and 00 buckshot.Target was at 38yds.Everthing hit low,the slugs were terrible 8+ inches low and slightly right with mod or IC chokes.I even tried the slugs at 30 yds and I was still 6 ish inches low.All 9 pellets from the Buckshot were 4 or more inches low with mod choke(38yds).The Waterfowl shot had decent coverage with the two chokes I tried them with but the bigger percentage of shot was below horizontal center. So do I have a defective barrel?I will be contacting the dealer Monday but wanted some other opinions. Is this a warranty type of thing?Or can a good gunsmith improve it?As it is it's not usable for deer hunting.

I was using a bipod rest and the gun fits me great.

Try some different aftermarket choke tubes and see what you get. That will confirm that the problem is with the barrel. Remington did replace some bad barrels a decade or so ago.

Barrel Press - had a brand new 870 vent rib, and since then many other 870's, that shot consistently to the left and not with me behind them. Rented the press from a local gun shop and you would be amazed at how much bend a barrel will take to move POI slightly. They are quite flexible and go back to form easily. I was assured that the smith does this regularly but was on holiday for a month so it was wait or do it myself.

I know it can be intimidating but go easy and with the press it does work. I am not one for Kentucky windage in any gun and the 870 in question was a dedicated turkey rig so if it doesn't hit where pointed it is useless

Yeah I will retrieve the old barrel and give it a try. I did try both Rem and after market chokes.
I read something about looking at light reflections inside the barrel to check straightness.Anyone familiar with this method?

we did it once with a Bt 99 that shoot 100% high, clamped it to the bead of a big milling machine and used the head stock to bend it. I have to admit. I was little skeptical, but at risk of popping off the vent rib we did it. With the owners' ok. It took two tries but now it shoots 60/40. It does work , but you got have B@lls to try it
