A while back, I purchased a PacNor .308 target barrel through the EE. The barrel was new, threaded & chambered for a M700 style action; one with a longer shank than a regular 700.
I didn't want to shorten the shank, re-machine the breech face and recut the chamber, so I used a thicker than stock recoil lug and machined a collar to compensate for the longer shank. Headspace and bolt nose clearance are excellent. Assembled the barrelled action in a test stock with a vintage 20X Redfield scope so that I could see what potential the barrel has. Ammunition was 154Lapua/46gr Varget/Lapua brass loaded for another rifle. Bullets contacted the leade. Here is the barrel, collar and recoil lug.

Fired 2 rounds of ball to find out approximately where the rifle was shooting, then fired a couple of 5 round groups to get the scope close to zero. Here are the third and fourth five shot groups fired at 100m; the squares are 1". Fired off bags.
Third group.

Fourth group.

Half minute down between groups. My point of aim was the lower left corner of the square.
The barrel certainly has potential. Now all the detail work needs to be done. The 700 receiver has been belt sanded because bubba grabbed the receiver in a coarse jawed vise. I'll blast and park it.
