Well as I posted last week, my new Medalist Stock from Bell and Carleson arrived. I hogged out the barrel channel and I placed my customized remington 700 action and Rob MaClennan 6mmBR barrel in.

I built this rifle for the Listowel Sniper Matches, which is brutal on barrels with 50 round in 30 minutes. The barrels get pretty warm. I currantly have 730 rounds down the barrel now and with four matches shot at the last competition, I totalled 192 for the day. Thats a lot of shooting.

I am pleased to report that the new stock is very comfortable to shoot. Better and more comfy than the Ultimate Sniper Stock it was formerly housed in. As shown below, the first and second 5 shot group are from the bipod, from a prone position using my off hand as a rear rest, just like we shoot in Listowel. The last group was shot using a rear rabbit ear sandbag and the bipod. All three groups were shot at 150 meters, as that is the distance of my range. (we aren't allowed to set up the targets any closer)

Needless to say, I'm thrilled that the 6BR cartridge is accurate beyond my capabilties. I have yet to try the tuner I got with the stock, but with the rifle on bags grouping in the 2xxs like that, I have some work ahead of me to shoot to the rifles full potential. I'm also concerned that with 50 rounds in 30 minutes, the tuner will throw shots around more than help them into one hole with the heating involved in the kind of shooting required for Listowel. I will give it a try in the future. I will bed the recoil lug and hopefully that will tighten things up a bit. There is a lot of action roll in the stock when the action screws aren't tightend down.

Hey, nice targets... ;) I used a few of those today myself.

So, do I dare ask? Where'd you get it and how much? Is it a relaistic alternative to a McMillan in terms of feel and fit and finish? I doubt it's as durable or as strong as a McMillan but that doesn't mean a great deal for a range queen.

For a range queen, It fits the bill perfect. I would rate the quality up there with the HS. I have an HS on my 700VS and they seem very similar. I have only ever handled the A-5 McMillan, and ...NO its not a McMillan.....but really...what is??

As for where I got it. It may be frowned on, but a direct order to Afternmarket Innovatins from Salem Oregon got this to my door with no problems. This was legit order where the exporter had all his paperwork in order. I ended up forking out $436.97 to get it here. The barrel and action and all the gunsmithing was done for just over $700. The barrel from Rob was $350. The rest was gunsmithing and taxes and shipping. Rob was kind enough to save me a few bucks on account that I waited 14 months and haunted him constantly about it at the 1 year mark. Great product, crappy service.( the barrel that is) The stock arrived exactly 8 weeks after the order.

McClennan dosent do quick turnaround. I want to start a new project but i fear the wait for the tube. Did you get the max guard finish? if you did what do you think?

Damn quite a bit over the $280US shipped that they are asking. Was it mostly UPS duties or was it something else? I was debating on using them to get it, but at that price, its a little too steep for me.

I didn't manage to get the stock ordered when the canadian dollar was alongside the american. There was a 13% exchange rate. There was a $45 dollar charge for the inletting for the S.M.A.R.T system, and $70 for the tuner assembly. The textured finish was an add on as well as the shipping and customs.

I did not get the max guard finish. Its suposed to be a rubber type coating. When I asked the guy about it, he said that if I wanted to paint it in the future, I was pretty much eliminating the usefulness of the max guard.

Nice shooting Barks!

Looks like you got in "under the wire" so to speak, I just learned that the company you purchased your stock from will no longer be shipping to Canada. Figures, just when there is a half decent product available someone slams the door on it. Too bad though, looks like a nice stock, and now with the Canadian coin so high it makes it that much nicer!
