Just picked up a new stock for my still relatively new (fired 60 rounds) Rem700. My initial impressions and some specs:
- "Old" HS precision stock weighed in at 2.16 lbs (980 g)
- New Bell & Carlson stock a whopping 5.04 lbs. (2.285 kg)
- Easy screw in installation with the aluminum bedding chassis
- Three way adjustable butt assembly (LOP/cant/height) (LOP range 46mm)
- Adjustable cheek piece (range 34mm)
- Butt plate has a Pachmayr recoil pad that adjusts up and down on an aluminum plate
- Integral aluminum fore end rail
- Whole gun/stock/bipod 15.43 lbs. (HEAVY!)
I always had the impression that Bell & Carlson were a relatively cheap aftermarket stock. Not anymore, I would easily rate it on par with HS Precision. Installation was a breeze, everything fit nice and snug. I liked the vertical grip angle. Still debating on weather to keep the old stock, it has it's appeal, has less 'stuff' to mess with and is lighter to carry around.
I also installed the 2 round mag extender from Brownells. Again it was easy to install and aside from the extra two rounds it also makes the guns look a little cooler and a cheaper alternative to a mag conversion for $18US.
