Congratulations to Dwayne Cyr for new BR Record!
Dwayne 's HV 100 Yards 250 21X has been acknowledged by Benchrest Shooters Canada as a new record. More impressive was that it was shot at 100 meters with no allowance for extra distance. Mr. Cyr is not only a dedicated shooter, he is the Lake of the Woods Gun Club Rifle Chair/Range Operator.

Equipment:

Action - Hart #1A built by Wally Hart in the 1980s
Barrel - Krieger HV 17 twist
Stock - McMillan
Scope - Sightron 45X
Powder - VihtaVuori N120
Bullet - Bill Mitchell 118 grain
Brass - Lapua 6.5 Grendel
Cartridge - .30 Major

Congratulations are in order and we wish Dwayne Cyr all the best in a hopefully long shooting career.

Not really familiar with benchrest scoring...what does that score mean?

I thought benchrest was scored by group size.

I thought benchrest was scored by group size.

This would be a 25 bull target with a 10 ring in the middle and small dot in the center of that. 250 would be all 25 within the 10 ring and the 21 would mean he hit 21 of 25 of the dots.

Not sure on the 10 ring size as I'm not sure what target they are using.

Not all benchrest is group. Some of it is for score.

Yes my little buddy. You done good. Until April when we try to up that score.

The targets used are 100 and 200 IBS Score targets. There are 6 targets on it. 5 are used for record and 1 is the sighter target. You foul and shoot at the sighter to check wind conditions. Then 1 shot is fired at each of the 5 record bulls hitting the 10 ring and ultimately the Dot in the center of the 10 ring. If the Dot is hit it is scored as a 10X.

In other words Dwayne shot a clean match with a 250 out of 250 with hitting the dot 21 out of 25 times. Some clubs score the target with an extra point for the dot. So a perfect target scored in that manner is a 55 while the traditional scoring method is 50 5X. Some. Clubs like the 55 point system. It allows one to claw back into a match without it basically being sudden death. We tend to like the sudden death aspect.

Benchrest is either group or score.

The target looks like this only the are 6 on one sheet, marked 1 through 5 plus one marked S for a sighter... you can shoot all you want on the sighter, only one shot on each of the five targets.

I cut them up and use them as I wish.

How big is the dot in the center on a 100yd target?

Cheers

Congratulations

So then he basically stacked 21/25 bullets on top of each other?! (I understand not technically, as hes using multiple targets, but still)

Impressive work! As the record is being acknowledged by Benchrest Shooters Canada according to the OP, would this be a Canadian record? or even more significant, like a world record?

Ok, thanks for the description, fine shooting indeed.

That isn't the IBS target used... 250 -21X ... I believe it would have been shot on five targets and most likely in five relays... not all at once on one target with 25 bulls...

If you want to have cheap fun use this target with a maximum of a 6X scope and a 10 pound factory rifle... you know - like a hunter rifle... you will score very few 50's let alone very many X's.

The Americans are much more accomplished at Score shooting. The current IBS 100 yard record is 250 - 25X with 22 wipe outs shot by Randy Jarvais 5/6/2018. The current NBRSA record is 250 - 25X with 17 wipe outs shot by Larry Kuse 9/16/2012. After all 25 X dots are hit, the score is then decided by "wipe outs". A wipe-out is when the center dot or "x" is completely gone. A scoring reticle scribed with a caliber specific circle is centered over the bullet hole. If it touches the line or X dot its counted. No scoring plugs to tear paper.

It will be a while before we hit all 25 X dots and need to start count wipe outs. The load used on the record shot a .107" three shot group in testing, which I trusted.
