New Brunswick "intro to 600m shooting" event at Springfield Range

....all done!

We had eleven shooters at the range today, had a splendid time. Everybody had a 100 (or other known) zero, we started at 400m, centred up, then moved back to 600m for the rest of the day. In addition to the paper targets, we had a 12" square steel plate that got struck regularly, and there were also three water-filled 2L pop bottles that got blown up too.

Cheers,

A great day of shooting indeed!

I am certain I speak for everyone who attended when I say thank you Daniel for putting this all together and getting us out for a great time at the range. Great weather, great company and lots of ammo; does it get any better?

I won't likely be able to run any more intro events at the Springfield Range for the rest of the summer, because the Royal New Brunswick Rifle Association will be having matches nearly every weekend (which will take up most of my weekends!)

Anybody interested in giving it a go, please contact me, there are a number of matches that are really useful for bringing out new shooters and having them fire as a guest. Here's our schedule:

How Far? You've got to be joking?

I took part in this activity. Most of the shooters were amazed at their ability to shoot long range, with coaching from Dan of course. I took particular pleasure in hauling out the 1908 Brazilian Mauser that I bought here on CGN. The looks alone were priceless. "What is it?" "That's older than my grandfather's Winchester" were some of the comments. They couldn't believe that I was actually going to shoot this antique 7 X 57 with open military V sights at 400 yards. The tone changed somewhat when I fired my first 3 rounds at 400. I had a 7" group at 10 o'clock.
Great job Dan. I think it would be safe to say that we can expect shooting at the 600 Range at Springfield to pick up.

Good job out there! Envious of your schedule! The 600 M DND ( "Cambrai ")Range has been unavailable to us ( NPRA) for all of last year , & no bookings for us until mid August of this one. due to "widening" ,& not as hoped lengthening the range, installing grenade pit, & the main reason for no summer bookings ? ---- waiting for the grass to grow --due to the hydroseeding!! Complaining ? who's gonna hear it ? --- envious ? YES!

thunderflash I am sorry to hear that NPRA is still not able to shoot (much of) this year, argh. That's gotta be pretty tough. We'd love to have you guys come here to shoot with us of course, but that's not very feasible. I was stunned to discover that here in Fredericton, I am closer (driving time) to Toronto than I am to the nearest parts of Newfoundland...!

the_tracker, I must admit I had doubts that you'd get satisfying performance out of your 100 year old Mauser, but you sure did fine at 400m with it! And it is such a gorgeous rifle - I really am serious about being willing to give you $200 for it! ;-)

Thanks Dan. So far you have offered to buy the buttplate. Check this Brazilian out (mine is in better condition): http://www.collectiblefirearms.com/RiflesMauser.html (the Brazilian is the fourth rifle down).
I am just in the process of ordering a Burris EER for the old fella. Then it is over to the lathe and milling machine to build a custom base to fit in the rear sight base. Then LOOKOUT!!! (Hopefully).
