used oprod trigger group and gas cylinder/front sight
used rear sight

New citidal barrel from tradeex

rifle functions fine groups fine but with rear sight all the way down it shoots about 6 inch high at 50 meters and about 12-14 high at 100 (sight all the way down)

checked front sight its standard height has not been filed down

checked stock barrel not touching nothing too tight

here is what I have tried

2 other front sights... no change

barrel was slightly touching wood shaved wood down clearance of business card now...no change

tried another stock...no change have 2 other stocks I will try

options??

I know I can grind the rear sight so it will go down 4 clicks or so but That wont be enough and is the last resort

or I could weld the front sight a bit taller again last resort

any suggestions?

Max-min dimension on front sight is .728-.723.

Every click that you go down on the rear sight by grinding the bottom of the aperture will reduce POI by 1 inch @ 100 yds. Your best bet is probably to build up the front sight blade.

You might also try another gas cylinder and see what happens. Gas cylinders were gauged for all dimensions in manufacture, but there might be a difference.

I'm assuming that the screw in the elevation knob is tight with no possible slippage.

Build up the front sight blade. Rather than welding, use silver solder, either high or low temperature, to add a piece of steel. File to suit.

Yes rear sight is tight I have 5 other garands that shoot fine so Ill try gas cylinders from them

how much would I need to raise front sight? mine is .723

It would be worth verifying that your rear sight components are all US GI. Precision gauging was a big feature in Garand production which ensured interchangeability and reliability, even within manufacturing tolerances.

I've assembled a lot of Garands and always found pretty consistent targetting when using US GI sight components. There are some commercial sight components in circulation, as well as Chinese made parts, which aren't made to original specifications. You could even swap in a complete rear sight unit which does work and see what happens in your problem rifle.
