what would a Smith or Gaillerd barrel go for?? say 26" 1/8twist blank

Yep, $350.00 for a 26" 1:8 (If you google Ted Gaillard you will come up with his website and price list)

XR 100 is $850 from that large wholesale-type place in Calgary.

I think I will go with the MODEL 700 VSF DESERT I like that style of stock(in 308) sell the barrel or keep it....for a later day!! get a Gaillard 6mm barrel 1.5 Twist in a Heavy Varmint profile fluted maybe.....then do it in 243,243AI or 6BR and maybe even 6XC(brass and 115Dtacs's might be harder to get)(and more work)....


would you think the 6Br could be used on Deer???I mean with hunting bullets??

hell I could go with the 700 SPS just for the action.....sell the barrel and stock and get a Robertson or McMillan


what would the best Barrel length be for the 243??

If you go 28 or 30" then you will have enough barrel left over that you can re-chamber later when that throat is done.

Ballistically I see no reason why you couldn't use the 6BR for deer other than the cartridge does not work well in magazines.

I am doing an SPS-actioned build this winter too. (another 6BR) plus I am building a 6.5X47 Lapua. FWIW You might want to look at the Richards Microfit gunstocks too. No problem importing to Canada.
