:)This is a rifle that a fellow in Whitehorse Jim Streiloff built for me last fall. I have been very busy and have not been able to give a decent range report untill now. Sorry for the delay.
I bought this rifle new about 8 years ago. It started life as a Sako 75 stainless synthetic 30-06 and found it to be a excellent shooter. It regularly shot sub 3/4 moa. I had so much fun with it target shooting LR that I shot the barrel out after 4700 rounds. I had been wanting a purpose built LR percision gun so using my 75 action on the build was as good as a excuse as any to get it started!
The barrel is a 26'' rock creek M24 1/11.25 twist 5R, chamered in 30-06, screwed on with great care and attention to a sako 75 action, and Bedded into a Mcmillian A5 stock. The factory trigger is tuned to a crisp and consistant 2.5lbs. The barreled action is ceracoted coyote tan. The leupold MK4 4.5-14 FFP is craddeled in a Near Alpha mount, mounted on a Near 20 moa rail.
I have tried a few different powders (IMR4831, H4350 and N550). All have shot well. I am trying to dial in Berger 185 VLD's. The best powder to date is the N550. It is acheiving the best speed, the lowest speed varience(12 fps) and 0.5 moa or better. I would like to re visit IMR 4831 and work the load up a little more and see if I can reach a higher node without hitting any pressure. Anyway here is a pic of the rifle and a few of the N550 targets. All targets were shot at 200 yards. http://i1258.photobucket.com/albums/ii527/tuner11/30-06.jpg

Sweet looking rig! It is nice to see a build on something other than a Savage or Remington around here. Good choices all around too on the action, barrel, stock and colours.

Thanks. I wasn't keen on the dark earth when I got the stock in my hands but the color combo is starting to wear on me. As for the action I really like the sako. They cycle like butter and a side bonus there is lots of room in the magazines for long bullets. I don't have any clearence issues with VLD seated to the lands. It was aqward gun to build because of the action. Mcmillian was the only stock maker that inleted for it and Near manufacturing is the only outfit building a 20moa base for it. There are no after market triggers available for the m75 although I really like the factory trigger. It is a bit of a off beat build but I'm one of those guy's that sometimes does things the hard way.:D
