New Bullet Mould

Is it ok to use brake cleaner to degrease a new bullet mould. Or just soap & water. Thanks for any info.

Use non chlorinated brake cleaner if you do. I boil mine in TSP rinse and dry in the oven set to 235f.

Brake cleaner is my usual thing. Almost never used water but it might be a good idea if there's anything non-petroleum on it.

I use water and soap, dried on my casting hot plate for a few min, then isopropol alcohol on a q tip in each cavity.

Either will work fine. After every casting session, I hose down my molds with mineral oil to prevent rust. Next time I use them, they go straight on the hotplate, and the heat burns off the oil. No need to clean them. First couple bullets are wrinkled, but good after that.

I use brake cleaner also. A side benefit is that it clean also the smoking of the cavity after use.
Don’t forget to lube If a steel mold .
