I got a little curious about my new Chinese 7.62x54R N/C ammo from Canada Ammo, and opened a fresh 1000 round case last night. Here is what I found.

First, here is one of the 2 spam cans found inside the typical wooden crate. Interesting it's embossed in English:

Inside each can is 4 paper wrapped bundles of 125 rounds:

Each bundle has looks like this inside:

The headstamp is arsenal 61, 2011 production year:

Some might say that the production year is 1961, but here is a partial screenshot from the ammo ID page on 7.62x54r.net. It indicates that there is an arsenal 61, but no arsenal 11.:

I would definitely lean towards 2011 export production from Factory 61. The "3-11-61" is either a lot code or an intentionally obfuscated date.

Thanks. It would be nice if you could remove the bullet and powder and provide pics and weights of both.

The date on the spam can should say it all.
3-day made
1-November
61-1961

So to me the ammo was made on November 3, 1961

Do the rust test on a couple nail's. When I did mine I did it outside and used a propane torch to set them off

Stuff was advertised as being new production and non corrosive. I'd be surprised if canam would make that statement without having tested the stuff, considering how people have gotten surprises before with supposedly non corrosive ammo.

I want to use the stuff in my SVT-40 sniper, so I don't have to beat the scope off of it every time I shoot the bugger.

How i understand it is that typically the code stamped on the spam can, 3-11-61 stands for "model" or type of bullet(i believe, a little fizzy on the first number)-then date (2011)-then factory it was produced in, in this case factory 61.

Its Factory 61 in china guys, not 1961, military or surplus ammo is stamped differently, he already explained and showed with illustration it was 2011 production at factory 61

range report

The non corrosive Chinese 7.62x54R shoots great in my 44TULA PU. Very accurate. 1 1/2" groups at 100 meters. About the same POI and accuracy as the corrosive Chinese ammo. The Chines ammo has had the best accuracy in my PU so far of all the ammo I've tried except PRIVI ball. The non-corrosive Chinese ammo functions my SVT buy not very accurate, some (?)Czech ammo works best , accuracy wise with my SVT. It's grey colored cases in a blue green cardboard box.

Thanks Big Bear, that's good to know. I've read chinese surplus is also very accurate, but this is very tempting. If anyone from northern New Brunswick wants to split an order pm me I might be interested.
