Thanks to shootingfiend I have a NIB Colt LW Commander. A few safe-scuffs but it's as tight as these things come.

I know lots of people think that the full sized 1911 is the 'ultimate handgun', but I'd have to say after using and handling both, the Commander is better balanced and just plain better handling. Nice Pistol!

Thanks for the complements. Yes I think I will get Casey to put some rear Novaks on it. Maybe even dovetail the front and replace those too.
I have always shot better with a commander length and I don't know why. Maybe I can steady the muzzle better or something.
Unlike my last one I will break it in and then send it to a smith for a reliability package.

Am I the only guy who's dream 1911 has a 6" barrel?

Anyways, nice gun man. Shoot it with those sights, post a report. Get some new sights, post a report then sell the lesser of the two.

Enjoy your new gun.

Colt LW

I remember that gun, Shootingfiend had some real nice stuff, usually does. That's a beautifiul Commander that you don't see too often, NIB to boot. Enjoy this classic Colt. Pictures look great also.

Mini range test. Mini because I could only get ahold of two boxes of ammo. Both were Winchester 185gr flatnose. I was expecting the worst since my last three Colts were finicky with this ammo.
My first round jammed on the ramp and I said, "here we go.." but i barely racked the slide and it went into battery.
That was the first and LAST FT feed, fire or eject!
I am using my wrong hand due to an injury that won't go away. I was pleasantly suprised to see big .45 calibre holes appearing consistently in the 6" paper plates from 25 yards.
I switched to my injured arm and the shots started to drift to the left. It is less fun shooting with my wrong hand but I can now shoot better this way.
As expected, brass was consistently being thrown in my face, over my head, ten yards to the right, into my coat pocket and some even went down-range. Ah, Colt, how could I have not had a 1911 in my safe for so long?
This is my best ten yard group. I am sure I can bring it in when I can score some 230gr ball.

Have you tried giving Wolf H. a call? He has some good prices on reloaded ammo, if you have no problems using that over factory. I just ordered some 230gr. roundnose TMJ's for my Norc Commander at a decent enough price, and even the shipping wasn't that bad.

Nice Colt!! Regarding your brass ejection... I experienced that with my NP29 at first. Then I sent the slide to Gunnar at www.armco.com and had him replace the tiny factory sights with a set of taller 3 dot babies. While it was with him, I asked him to tune the extractor.

When I got it back, the ejected brass would all be tossed over my head and land in a 2 ft diameter circle to my right and rear. I was impressed with his work.

Enjoy your beautiful Commander !!

And I did get his little brother from the same seller... A bran new Lightweight Officer's 45 ACP... Hee! Haa!

Now that thing should have some kick to it! I plan to break mine in and send it for fine tuning. What is Armco's turnaround time these days?
